Southern Style Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Happy Monday guys! I hate to make you wish it was the weekend again when it’s only 9am on Monday morning, but I just couldn’t wait any longer to share this tasty Southern Style Buttermilk Fried Chicken dish with you. Normally I try to adapt recipes into my own but with one as old and classic as this, there’s really no point!

What You’ll Need:
2 cut-up fryer chickens
1 quart plus 1/4 cup buttermilk, divided
5 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons seasoned salt (like Lawry’s)
2 teaspoons black pepper
2 teaspoons dried thyme
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup milk
canola or vegetable oil for frying

For the recipe details I followed The Steamy Kitchen’s interpretation of Ree Drummond’s (aka The Pioneer Woman) Buttermilk Fried Chicken recipe. She breaks down each step in a really easy to understand way and has a ton of instructive pics to go along with it! I would love to know if you end up trying out this recipe. There’s really nothing like a good piece of fried chicken especially when you can make it at home in your own kitchen. Enjoy!!
