Mercado, Los Angeles

Happy Monday guys! One of my favorite things about traveling is being able to try new restaurants. I’m definitely the type of food nerd that Yelp’s like crazy as soon as I know I’m taking off for a weekend trip. In addition to Roscoes House of Chicken and Waffles, I also managed to sneak one more meal in while I was in LA a few weekends ago. After a long day at the tradeshow my girlfriends and I headed out to Santa Monica for some fresh ocean air and even fresher Mexican food at Mercado!

A Little About Mercado:

The menu exemplifies the cuisine and flavor of Chef Jose Acevedo’s and co-owner Jesse Gomez’s Mexican roots, featuring items such as Chef Acevedo’s signature carnitas, created from a recipe handed down through generations. With tortillas made by hand daily, the finest meats, poultry and seafood, enchiladas and tacos, produce from the local farmer’s market, flavorful sauces and everything made from the freshest ingredients, Mercado offers handcrafted Mexican cuisine, artful design, a warm atmosphere and friendly service. Mercado’s bar offers over 60 premium Silver, Reposado and Anejo Tequilas, as well as mescal, and 12 draft and bottled beers

Our Menu:

Chips and Two Salsas

Ceviche Tropical – citrus-marinated white fish and shrimp, mango, jicama, cucumbers, red onions, cilantro, serrano peppers, red peppers, grilled pineapple

SM Farmers’ Market Enchiladas – Chef Jose’s hand-picked vegetables, yellow mole, queso fresco, nopalitos

Tamales – fresh masa, chef’s choice of filling, queso fresco, crema

It was a great way to end a really long day. Sorry for the dark pictures, we didn’t end up sitting down til around 10pm. The setting was really relax, which I love. It’s a very small restaurant and the majority of the tables are communal style. It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend stopping by next time you find yourself in Santa Monica!
